This path teaches a journey of showing God’s love (agape; unconditional) despite how tough life can become; thinking of the good of others before yours. In a world where achievements and validation are elevated and sought after, putting others before you can be rare. We see only the wealthy doing big social projects while most other people are ‘just trying to survive.”
However, God requires more from us in the path of selflessness than the typical courtesies, not only does He require we be good (behaviour) to others, He emphasizes on “doing good” (lending a hand) to others.
When that individual needs help; Proverbs 3:27-28 says Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbour, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—when you already have it with you.
When God blesses you, His command to you is found in 1 Timothy 6:17-19; Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
The poor and vulnerable, God says in Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.
Can we get weary or disheartened in helping others? Yes! When you are stretched emotionally, financially, socially etc; God knows this and encourages us in Gal 6:9 (TPT): And don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!
Beloved, keep planting those seeds of good in your family, your community, your city, your country and the world.
