Waters for the Thirsty SoulTM is inspired by the story of the Samaritan woman found in the fourth chapter of the book of John. I have often wondered about the phrase, “living life abundantly”, pulled from that text, especially how the concept seems elusive to many believers.
The word “abundance” speaks of a state of plenty – having all things sufficient and living life fully. However, at times, it seems the realities of life create circumstances
that make us question Christ’s promise of the abundant life. In explaining His mission on earth, Jesus said, “The thief ’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come
to give them life, and to give them more abundantly.” In other words, Christ came to give us life and to help us live life in abundance (live life to the full).
In the journey of devotion, we all need that resort— wells that quench our thirst in a broken and parched world. We need tools that enable us to connect with God. That song of worship; that book we go back to that helps us calm our spirit and amend our ways.
We want insightful ideas that enable us to look deep within and challenge us to allow God wash us and permit the Holy Spirit to prune us.
There is a deeper call open to those who dig wells and have exercised themselves to fellowship and delight in God.
