Do you know Him?

Beloved of God, do you know that nothing can ever separate you from the love of God? NOTHING! Let that sink in. So you did something nasty, wrong and sinful, don’t stay there, come over to Him and repent. He’s so loving. All He wants is you!

One of my closest friends sent me this saying by AW Tozer during the week;

The Person of God

My faith does not rest on God’s promises. My faith rests upon God’s character. Faith must rest in confidence upon the One who made the promises….

When I think of the angels who veil their faces before the God who cannot lie, I wonder why every preacher in North America does not begin preaching about God—and nothing else. What would happen if every preacher just preached about the person and character of God for an entire year—who He is, His attributes, His perfection, His being, the kind of a God He is and why we love Him and why we should trust Him? I tell you, God would soon fill the whole horizon, the entire world. Faith would spring up like grass by the water courses. Then let a man get up and preach the promises of God and the whole congregation would join in chorus: “We can claim the promises; look who made them!” This is the confidence; this is the boldness. Faith Beyond Reason, 45.

This has resonated so deeply especially in a week that the globe is shaken by riots, protests, murders and countless violent incidences (domestic abuse, rape, police brutality, kidnappings etc). Where is faith in all this? What are our thoughts of God in these times? Do we know His mind concerning these matters? What are we expected to do in these times? Do we blame Him? What are our words of comfort to each other?

Our text is taken from: 2 Peter 3:9

"9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. "

God is more concerned about a relationship with us than handing out promises. Understanding God’s person is key to representing Him correctly before our world. You cannot be a Christian and be part of racism, ethnic discrimination, brutality, discrimination etc.  God is love. That’s His persona, the sum total of Who is.

We tend to be conditioned towards God’s promises than His Character. In Psalms 103:7; we are told that He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.(NLT) Moses became a Friend of God. Most of the people in the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11) made it there through a friendship with God- Abraham, David, Joseph, Moses etc even though none of them saw the promise. They weren’t there for the promises, they were there for the relationship. They believed God.

Friendship with God is so different and more fulfilling than just tagging along for the miracles and the breakthroughs.  When you know Him, you trust Him.

Salvation is the beginnings of a relationship with God the Father through His son Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit helps us through this Journey by opening us to who God is and transforming us in this knowledge to live holy and righteous lives in Him through Christ.

Let us desire a deeper and personal relationship with God in these times. God has to be preached to the world through our lives. Our lives must reflect His nature and His being. It is a lifelong journey, one filled with lessons, trials, storms and victories, however it is also one filled with unfailing love, mercy, grace and truth.

He is calling us into the deep.
